Little Steps Speech Therapy provides services for children across a wide age range, typically from toddlers (around 18-24 months) through to adolescents (up to 16-18 years old). We tailor our assessment and therapy approaches to be age-appropriate and engaging for each developmental stage.

No, you do not need a formal referral from a GP or other health professional to book an initial assessment or therapy sessions at Little Steps. Parents and guardians are welcome to contact us directly to discuss their concerns and schedule an appointment. However, if you have a referral, please bring it along.

Coverage for speech therapy services can vary. Many private health insurance funds provide rebates for speech pathology depending on your level of cover; we recommend checking directly with your fund. Additionally, your child may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under specific Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans (previously Enhanced Primary Care or EPC plans) provided by a GP. Please discuss this option with your doctor. Our current special offer provides a significant discount on the initial assessment regardless of insurance or Medicare rebates.

Individual therapy sessions at Little Steps typically last for 45-50 minutes. This duration allows for focused, engaging therapy activities and includes time for discussion with parents/guardians about progress, home practice strategies, and answering any questions you may have. Initial assessments may be slightly longer, usually around 60-75 minutes.

It's common for parents to wonder about their child's communication development. Signs that your child might benefit from an assessment include difficulty producing certain sounds, not using age-appropriate vocabulary or sentence length, trouble understanding instructions, stuttering or fluency issues, challenges with social interaction, or feeding/swallowing difficulties. If you have any concerns at all, we encourage you to contact us for a brief chat or to book an assessment – early intervention is often key.
